I started my hike at 7 AM at a bone-chilling 34 degrees at the El Camino del Cerro trailhead, since the Kings Canyon parking lot was closed for improvements. I later met a group of hikers who started there anyway, and just parked off road. 3.5 miles of steady climbing on well-maintained trail to the saddle junction, then the wind picked up and never relented for the final 1.2 mile push up a ridge to the summit. I was the first to the top, but I could see the other hiking group coming up the ridge and joined me for a group photo a few minutes later. Very windy at the top but great sweeping views of Tucson and the surrounding desert floor.
