This was a challenging winter hike, given the elements – snow, high winds, elevation. Nearly 12 miles and approx. 4200 ft elevation gain. Microspikes were required from Icehouse Saddle. The snow obscured the trail, and following the tracks in the snow led us a couple times in the wrong direction. Fierce 40-50 mph winds blew from time to time, as we climbed higher, forcing us to stop until it was safe to continue. Check the weather report and the snow report for the peak, before you go. This is one of my favorite hikes for the gorgeous views throughout the hike. It was worth the suffering. 🙂
