Mt.. Lincoln was day 2 of a 3 day hike. The weather was grey and gloomy pretty much from the start: with a smattering of rain for added enjoyment. There were a few breaks in the clouds that afforded us some spectacular views, and 3 days of backpacking beats work any day.
Day 1 ended with some knee pain, but nothing that a nights rest wouldn't cure, I thought. We headed out on day 2 and although the knee didn't feel great, we were able to keep hiking with a bit of bushwhacking thrown in due to some pretty severe blow-down. We summited Mt. Lincoln in the fog and drizzle and realized the trip was going to have to be re-routed as the knee pain was only getting worse. Up Mt. Lafayette and then down the Greenleaf Trail to the AMC hut.
After a great dinner, some good company and an amazing sunset – the clouds cleared just enough – we got a good night's rest and headed back down to end a great trip. After a week, my IT Band has quieted down and it's off to Mt. Greylock next week.

Bummer about your knee, @brendalee! Looks like you made the best of it. Beautiful lighting at the sunset, too!
Good luck on Greylock!
