I have been hiking in San Diego for some time, as my worn copy of the 2nd Edition of Afoot and Afield in San Diego will attest to. I grew up in Bakersfield, attended UCSB (Physics), and have lived primarily in San Diego since 1991. For quite a few years I was focused on sea kayaking and earned the British Canoe Union 3 Star award. But I grew bored paddling the same waters, again and again and so I started hiking more and more. But more recently I have been focusing on peakbagging. In 2019 I became the third finisher of the 100 Peak Challenge. In 2021, I finished the San Diego Sierra Club 100 Peak list.
