I conquered my fifth peak yesterday! I hiked from Stinson Beach to the top of Mt. Tam and back. It was 17 miles roundtrip and took me 10 hours. I’m exhausted but loved it! Such a beautiful place: redwoods, bunnies, chipmunks, a skink, fog.
This hike was longer than Mt. Diablo but easier for me because it was much cooler and a more gradual ascent. I started to get heat exhaustion at one point but noticed the signs much earlier and was able to get a handle on it quickly. The view from the top was really cool even though part of it was covered in fog. I also saw my last peak hike (Mt. Diablo) and my next one (Mt. St. Helena)! I think I could’ve seen Umunhum, too, if it wasn’t for the fog.
Parts of the Matt Davis trail were overgrown and had stairs that needed repair, but most of the park was beautiful and well-maintained. Overall very green with several creeks flowing. That’s pretty rare for July in the Bay Area.
I inhaled a delicious burger and beer at Breakers Cafe in Stinson Beach before heading home!

Congratulations, Kristen! I think this is my favorite hike in the NorCal challenge.
Definitely mine, too! Well, I have one left, but favorite so far.
