Such a drive from San Diego!  Set up tent a bit past Pinos, in the morning hiked to Grouse, ate breakfast, and on the way back hit Sawmill and Pinos.  Then went to the LA Opera, without showering or changing clothes!  Who does that?!

    1. Backpacking was the way to go, instead of starting a drive from San Diego around midnight or so! Next year, I’ll see about another approach I saw on a few maps, backpacking at a campground or something north/west of Grouse, then going east to Sawmill and Pinos then back.

The opera was fantastic! Tannhauser has some great music, and the production was very well done. The final chorus at the end had me in tears- good times!
