Today, January 3, 2024, began at 8:13 am at the Kings Canyon Trailhead where we completed the clockwise loop of Wasson Peak. This was a very straight forward hike. We ended this hike with 8 miles and 2,041 feet in elevation gain in 2 hours 54 minutes.
After making our way down, we headed of to our final peak for the day, Picacho Peak. Wow! What a great climb this was. Only 1.5 miles to the summit with 1,913 feet in elevation gain. Then another 1.5 miles back down or should I say down and up then down again! 😉 😉
Three miles 1,913 in elevation gain in 1 hour 43 minutes.

Awesome! 👏🏽 I was planning on doing this the same way. Get both hikes done in the same day. I was planning on doing Picacho first and then Wasson. What made you do Wasson first? I have never done either and would love your input.
Hey Alfie! Initially my order had to do with travel distance. My hotel was in Pheonix. So it made sense to travel to the hike that was furthest away and work our way back. Having now completed both hikes, I would certainly do the same order again, no matter which direction I was coming from.
Wasson Peak was a pretty easy 8-mile loop and a great stretch of the legs. Picacho was a short and very steep climb that was (in my opinion) very fun and exciting ascent. Especially if you like rock scrambling and climbing using cables. At times I was having so much fun, I found myself running to get to the next exciting part of the trail. Anyway, good luck to you and enjoy them both. 🙂
Awesome! Thank you so much. That makes sense. 😊 Hike on! 💪🏽
