4 Months after breaking my foot, I just hiked 13 miles!
This was my first hike in nearly 6 months! I wanted to finish my 6 hikes during the summer, however, I was pushed back because I broke my foot in August. Thankfully, I got the green light from my doctor that I could start doing hikes. Although 13 miles is definitely pushing the limit, I didn’t pay attention to the time it took, but just wanted to finish. I started at the Oak Grove trail, which starts next to the fire station. The signs at the beginning of the trail will lead you to the main trail. Be careful about the trail however, because many areas block off traffic for cars, and hikers can easily get confused where to go next. As a rule of thumb, remember you are going UP the mountain. It’s also easy on google maps to see where High Point is located and remember you are heading in that direction. I only ran into 4 other hikers on a Saturday, so it is pretty empty and can be pretty easy to get lost. However, this website is probably your best bet in reaching the summit. The top allows you to see the observatory. Glad I went on a nice day and I only have 2 more hikes to do before reaching my goal. The distance definitely gave me confidence that I can finish the rest!
