This morning I hiked my first officially recognized summit in Strawberry Peak! Standing at 6,167 feet, Strawberry Peak is the tallest point in the front range of the San Gabriel Mountains (three feet taller than San Gabriel Peak)… My friend and I arrived at the Red Box Picnic Area around 8am. We immediately geared up and began our trek. A little over two hours and one irritated rattlesnake later, we made it to the summit! We would soon realize that not only were we the first ones up there that morning, but we were also the only ones up there until around 10:30. That said, we did pass by a handful of people on the way down. I would definitely consider this trail slightly challenging, but not overtly difficult. There are certainly some narrow pathways, especially along the ridgeline and then again toward the summit, but as long as you play it smart and steer clear of some very sharp cacti, you should be fine!
