Checked Off: Mount Tamalpais
I was attempting to complete my final hike for the year, and was deciding between Mount Saint Helena and Mount Tamalpais. Finally I could find some time in December just before the holidays but the day turned out be a rain spoiler. Anyway I decided to start from the Rock Spring trail head but when I reached the Ridgecrest Blvd, near the watershed, it started to not only rain but I could not even make out the parking lot due to the dense fog and heavy drizzle. While I was wondering as to what to do but another hiker who parked near me and was taking another trail advised that it would be not a good idea to go up to the Eastern Peak now as the trails will be miserable. Therefore my only option was to go up to the Eastern Peak parking lot and hike up the peak and finish with the Verna Dunshee trail. That way, my one hour and forty minutes worth of driving is worth.
Anyways with drizzle and the fog I quickly went up the Eastern Peak (after driving carefully to the parking lot) but had to be careful not to slip as the rocks were slippery. After that I took the Verna Dunshee loop trail but after few minutes on the trail the rain eased a bit and I spotted the Temelpa Trail which leads to the Hoo-Koo-E-Koo trail and showed as 1.1 miles. I decided to go and come back up this trail but as I continued for about quarter mile the drizzle became intense and with the rocky trail ahead of me I did not take any chance and headed back to the parking lot but not before doing another quarter of mile taking the fire road and cutting across the Fern Creek trail back to the parking lot. By now it started to rain hard but am glad that I could complete the final leg of the six-pack of peaks,
