Definitely one of the tougher hikes!
For some reason, even though I’ve done this before, it’s either the elevation that makes me go slower or just the fact that it’s Mount Baldy! One of the more hiked mountains in Southern California. You’ll always see people around and there’s many different routes to go to the top. I’ve hiked this about 5 years ago. But this time, I wanted to do something a bit more out of pocket. I started near the ski lifts then after going up to the top (about 2.25 miles), I hiked Devil’s Backbone to get to the summit (about 3.5 miles). To say I was tired going up to the top was an understatement. Despite today’s weather being quite pleasant, I walked slowly up the steep cliffs to get to the top. Luckily I brought enough water. The views up at the top are great though. Plus there’s many others just hanging out up at top. I used Baldy Bowl Trail to get back to where I parked. Going down was also quite steep so my pace was quite slow to avoid tripping and falling. Completely felt this time around was tougher than last perhaps due to the fact I did a longer path. At the end, I looked at my watch and was surprised it was only 10 miles. The other hikes of the Socal Peaks are longer, but I wasn’t this tired!
