Grateful for the Web Cutters Today
Another early start! I drove one hour and fifty minutes from South Carolina to Georgia to begin this hike right around 0646. Today’s destination? Brasstown Bald, Georgia’s Highest Point (my 30th State High Point of the 50 US State High Points) and my 6th and final peak of the Appalachian Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge.
Again, another morning spent hiking the first 30 or 40 minutes in the dark. However, I was grateful the someone had begun this hike before I did, and they “cut” all the webs. With the exception of the Garden Spider webs about 6 to 8 feet above head.
Pretty cruisy trail. Lots of manmade steps and bridges throughout. A few steep areas, but not too bad. I recorded 7.20 miles (Alltrails 6.1 miles) and 2,307 feet in elevation gain. I didn’t see anyone on my ascent. Other than the three young men coming down that cut the webs for me. Of course I thanked them for that!
Since driving up to the summit is easy, the summit, when I arrived, was starting to get a little busy. The parking lot easily holds over a hundred cars. Although it is a state park, they do accept America the Beautiful passes for parking. Otherwise, it is pay parking.
Another quick descent and about a dozen other hikers heading up. Great day and great summit views.
