Hike #2 of the Challenge, Upping our game!
Also on this hike
Hike #2 with my son was definitely more challenging than the last peak. The area is gorgeous and we enjoyed the nature and cabins at the beginning of the hike. There are lots of trees and a stream to walk by in the early part of the hike. We met a nice couple who told us about a natural spring a couple of miles up the trail, which we came upon and it is literally coming right from under the trail. We got our hats and sun sleeves wet and continued on. The hike to the first main junction was tough, but we felt good and hiked strong. After a nice break, we continued the next few miles to Ontario Peak, which seemed to go on forever. At the peak, we enjoyed the views, ate a nice lunch, and relaxed in the shade. On our way down we were hiking pretty fast but when we got back to Columbine Spring, we cooled off again and even drank from the spring, we didn’t get sick thank goodness. After continuing on, we made our way down for another successful summit.
