Peak #5 of the New England Six Pack of Peaks Challenge, 10-04-2025

Next up, Monadnock Mountain Trail, 8.6 miles with a total elevation gain of 2,278.  This was a last-minute decision for me. The original plan was to hike Bear Mountain (an easier hike). But the legs were feeling good and Monadnock didn’t look too difficult on paper. Just longer.

The first 2 miles up on this hike climb only 857 feet in elevation. Followed by the next 2.3 miles to the summit with an elevation gain of 1,110 feet.  An easy day with great weather to go along with it.

    1. Well, it’s the end of the season here. I saw only a few handfuls of hikers on trail. Most had no idea what the New England Six Pack of Peaks were. Monadnock was the peak where I saw the most hikers at the summit. They all came up from various trails. None came up the route I took. Mount Washington summit was busy but only because the people drove up to the summit and were arriving right after I summited. I only saw one group coming up on the Tuckerman Ravine route. I passed them early on and never saw them again. It’s a tough route for an average hiker. The final 1.4 miles gained 1,900 feet in elevation.
