Maiden Peak – Pleasant Surprise!

This was a cool hike.  Here is why:  1) Virtually no bugs.  Lucked out! 2) Great, dirt trail.  Really only about 100 yds. total of rocky trail.  3) The Waldo 100k Ultramarathon was going on.  The athletes were running to the top of Maiden Peak!  Rock stars! 4) I watched a woodpecker pecking on a tree for awhile and was inspired by his (or her) tenacity.  That is slow and tedious work!  5) Wasn’t too hot.  95% of the trail was in the trees with filtered sunlight.  Great hike!
