Mission Peak, Featuring Aggressive Wind
Also on this hike
I took the hard route up Mission Peak today with my husband. We hire a babysitter and make it a point to hike together every weekend — it’s our time to move, talk, and reset. He’s my best friend and my partner in all of it.
The climb itself felt surprisingly manageable. The trail was dry and in good shape, busy but not chaotic, and nothing technical on the way up. Legs felt strong, breathing stayed steady, and I never hit that familiar “why did I do this” moment.
The summit, however, was a different story.
The wind at the top was intense — sustained, powerful gusts that made standing still an effort and demanded full attention. I’ve hiked Mission Peak a few times now, but this was some of the strongest wind I’ve experienced up there. It completely changed the feel of the summit.
What stood out most was the contrast. Even just a few months ago I was still struggling to hike on my heavier post partum bosy. Today, after training and losing weight, it was so much easier!
Overall, a solid, confidence-boosting hike with my favorite person.
