Mount Elden: Close Encounters of the Lenticular Kind
Also on this hike
Mount Elden, rising above downtown Flagstaff, was an excellent hike to finish the Arizona Summer Challenge. An early start always helps and the unexpected cloud cover made the sunrise more dramatic. While fairly rocky, the switchbacks eased the fairly steep ascent. An amazing lenticular cloud hovered overhead. The radio dish arrays made it easy to imagine successful UFO contact, disguised in the cloud. The howling wind made for an eerie summit experience and all layers were utilized. Great views over to the San Francisco Peaks (Humphreys) yet again. A thoroughly enjoyable Arizona Summer Six Peaks Challenge. Thanks to all those who curated these unique and diverse peaks. Much appreciated!
