My AZ Happy Trail
I really enjoyed this trail. Despite the continuous ascent and late start, there was a slight breeze and intermittent shade when needed. There were a lot of Gambel oaks along the trail that looked very fresh with their lush, minty green and sometimes reddish leaves. I was mostly admiring the crocodile-like tree bark, which is apparently called alligator juniper tree. It was very prominent midway of the trail. As we got closer to the peak, the quaking aspens dominated the trail. They provided more shade and coolness with their gentle sway and fluttering in the breeze.
After passing the Fatmans loop trail, some switchbacks started and mainly facing the East side, the highway 89 and the sheep hill. Sheep hill changes it color from start as we’re traversing our ascent to the peak.
I think the location of the elevation is anti-climactic as it’s under the tower. The view is exhilarating though. Would like to come back to check other route.
