Mt Baden-Powell, Burnham, Throop, Hawkins
Mt Baden-Powell, Burnham, Throop, Hawkins Trip Report
Trip report on another training trip I did on Sept. 10th.
1. I wanted to try to get Baden-Powell for the six-pack of peaks challenge, but to get this trip to be a bit more substantial, I added in three other sister peaks in the area.
2. Woke up at 3 am.
3. Took three liters for the 14+ mile trip but basically it was the same kit I took for Gorgonio
4. Drive was 1 hr 20 minutes and I was the first car in the parking lot. A chill wind was blowing and the stars were bright.
5. Once again, hiking in the dark you lose a sense of time. Just a focus on pace. Really cool sunrise over the mountains. Made great time to the top of Baden-Powell
6. And once again, it got mighty cold at the top. The wind picked up and I scrambled down the mountain after taking the obligatory pictures. I was thinking of aborting at that point because the rest of hike was on the ridge line and I could not imagine trying to keep my fingers warm if the wind kept up that intensity. I told myself to go for Burnham which I thought I could survive in that wind but if it didn’t improve by then, I would head back. I’m glad I did this as the trail stays a little off the top and the wind did subside some. Point here is I need to think about something warmer for the hands for Whitney.
7. Weather otherwise was ideal. Nice and cool until noon time and on the way back I shed all layers
8. I only saw three others this whole trip.
