On Saturday, January 25th, 16 Bay Area hikers embarked on an incredible ocean-to-summit hike from Stinson Beach to the top of Mt. Tamalpais! The hike covered a distance of 17 miles with an elevation gain of 3,619 feet. This hike also qualified for the Ocean to Summit and Bay Area 6 Pack of Peaks challenge!
The group set off promptly at 8 AM from the shores of the Pacific Ocean and ascended the Dipsea Trail to the Steep Ravine. The weather featured a mix of clouds and sunshine, accompanied by a refreshing crispness in the air. For the most part, the group stayed together throughout the hike.
The Steep Ravine Trail was lush and green although there wasn’t much water flowing through the creek due to the lack of rain, we could still hear the flow.
We were making good progress, and spirits were high as we reached Pantoll Campground for a quick break. Afterward, we crossed over Panoramic Highway to connect with the Matt Davis Trail.
The steepest part of the climb was along Hogback Road and Fern Creek Trails, which truly engaged our glutes and core!
We reached the summit of Mt. Tam at 11:30 AM and celebrated our accomplishment with a well-deserved 30-minute break and plenty of pictures.
On our way back down, the visitor center was open, and we took the opportunity to explore the shop for souvenirs.
We continued our descent to the West Point Inn and then reconnected with the Matt Davis Trail, eventually returning to Stinson Beach at 3 PM, where we had begun our adventure.
Thanks to all from the Bay Are Hikers who joined me today on Mt. Tamalpais! I have posted all the pictures and videos here, along with a link to the AllTrails route we took.
