Day 1 of the Adirondacks Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge
I made it to the Spacious Skies RV Campground in North Hudson, New York on Friday, Sep 19th arriving right around 5pm. I’m here for the Northeast NuCamp Trailer Rally. However, the rally doesn’t start until Wednesday, Sep 24th.
What on earth shall I do with myself between now and then? I know! It’s time to hike the Adirondacks Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge. ???? So, after driving across the country from Texas in four days, I got up early Saturday morning to attempt my first peak of the challenge. Now, the temperatures coming across country were easily in the 80’s and 90’s. Upper 70’s in the mornings. Saturday morning, I was surprised with temperatures in the mid-30’s at the campsite and low-30’s at the trailhead.
My first peak, Catamount Mountain, is a 4+ mile hike with right around 1,690 feet in total elevation gain. Most of that comes near the end of the hike. Lots of rock scrambling and a tiny bit of class 3 (non-exposed) rock climbing. It was a fun and invigorating hike.
