This was a terrible terrible hike. Rooky move on my part—phone battery died at the Piestewa saddle = no pictures at all. I was using All Trails this time and that was the battery suck. Saddle is where the Dreamy Draw route meets with the more popular route, and there were way too many people all smelling of aftershave and hair products. Crowded. Trail from Dreamy Draw to Summit trail poorly marked/glad to have All Trails. Net, a crowded urban hike that smelled like a fitness center —and no photos. Hope the other 5 hikes are good. Wish I could say something nice, but even the air quality was poor today.
That stair climb at the end is EXTREMELY popular. I think it’s fun to see all the people out enjoying the peak, but I also appreciate more peaceful hikes, and you’ll have some of those as well.
Sorry to hear about the issues with your phone running out of juice.
Here’s a couple tricks that I use that help. I download the map for the hike for offline access (requires a paid AllTrails account). I put my phone in airplane mode, and in low power mode. It will still track your route and location, but uses much less battery. I’d done this on backpacking trips and long day hikes (~8 hours) and my iPhone 14 Pro will still have plenty of juice at the end of the hike.
