Spectacular views in all directions, unique Eastern Oregon geography

Trailhead is, as noted, a little hard to see, but go slowly and you’ll find the dirt entry. It might look fenced, but there is a wire and stick gate you can open to gain access to the trailhead and parking (keep closed). Rain the night before made the lower mile muddy. No problem, but you might have a some extra ounces of mud with you for a bit on your shoes. Cloud with a little wind, but excellent for hiking. The summit itself is a ridge line. You’ll find the survey marker on the east, high side of the ridge, but be sure to (carefully) walk along the ridge to the west, where you will get a great view of the Painted Hills and the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. Trail had drained well on the way back. I had some extra mileage walking along the ridge for a time.
