After completing Catamount, I drove about 35 minutes to the Haystack Mountain Trailhead. Of course, I have no idea where I am, since this is my first time to the Adirondacks. There was no cell service at the trailhead, so my Google Maps did not come up. I did, however, anticipate this and wrote down all the directions the evening before. So, I was good! ????

Haystack initially was a very unassuming trail. Not much elevation gains for the first 3 miles. Just 843 feet in total gain. The final .6 miles to the summit climbed 725 feet in elevation. Did I mention there are no switchbacks! Nope, it’s straight the slope, a gully or a rocky/bouldery draw. I finished Haystack with 8.30 miles and a total of 1,925 feet in elevation gain.

Peaks 1 & 2 of the Adirondack’s Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge complete on day one.
