Strawberry Two Scoops
Also on this hike
So yesterday I got “AllTrailed.” Meaning I relied on a track on the app which looked like a trail, but wasn’t an official trail and after a nice start got very dicey. This was Strawberry Peak from Colby Canyon, which ends in a steep unmarked overgrown sandy scramble on the way to the summit. I made it to 5941 feet, about 200 vertical feet from the summit, but didn’t feel safe. The risk wasn’t so much that I’d fall off a rock and roll down into the valley, but that I’d get stuck, have a hard time climbing down, and/or lose my way and be hunting for a safe descent as the sun was rising and everything was getting hot.
So I came back today from Red Box, which was a beautiful sandy trail. Lots of butterflies (variable checkerspot) and chapparal yucca. Sunny day and nice to be above the fog!
This was #2 for the SixPack challenge, and my 529th barefoot mountain.
