We got out of the valley thunderstorms in exchange for a gorgeous day in Sedona. It was in the 50’s when we started with blue, mostly sunny skies surrounding us.

The trail starts with climbing right away. With a giant wall of red rock looming over you. The trail is narrow for a lot of it with a lot of foliage surrounding it. It is also very rocky and was wet and muddy from the rain the day before. Our shoes and trekking poles were caked with mud.

The tree cover was nice for less exposure. But it was super muggy in there and there were mosquitoes buzzing around us.

Eventually you come out of the trees to the First Bench which is a mesa below the summit mesa. It was a nice reprieve from the climbing for a short while. Then you enter back into more trees as you make your way up to the top. Wilson Mountain is a giant, tree covered mesa. But as you make your way through the trees you find overlook areas.

The Sedona Overlook was absolutely stunning!! The views are incredible. We took our summit snack break there. Then continued on our way to finish our hike and descend.

All in all, it was a pretty great hike! My feet hurt from all of the rocks, but a little pain is worth the payoff of being able to climb to such amazing places!
