On 5/16/2020, 1st time challenge Mount Diablo and 1st hiking since COVID-19. The weather is great for hiking not too hot nor too cold. However, the parking lots are all closed due to COVID-19. Big signal with no vehicle for non-resident pass-thru at the intersection of Diablo Ranch Dr and Mt. Diablo Science Blvd. We parked near the Athenian school. Many ppl choose biking instead of hiking up to Mt Diablo.
Trial conditional is ok. The Mile Markers pointing direction may be a little bit confusing, so make sure you check your GPS to ensure you are the on the right path. There is a restroom, panic area, and water tap along the way up but real trial head, at the 2/3 of the summit, and at the top of the summit. Overall the difficulty of hiking is similar to Half Doom. Leg scratching, water, the power bar, phone for GPS map, a light wind jacket, and at least one hiking buddy are needed for this challenge.
Although we spent 9hr hiking from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm for ~19mile, we enjoy the time rock climbing/photo shooting at Boy Scout Rocks, on the Summit Trail, and at top of Summit.
