Attack of the Chipmunks

I found this hike to be significantly more challenging than the others. Probably because I thought 3 liters of water was enough and it gets very hot near the top. Just little advice bring minimum 4 liters of water. I’ve taken 3 liters on every other hike and I wish I brought 5 liters on this one. Very nice hike though and yes the first mile up is tough but wakes you up quickly and of course the last 2 or so mile up is hot and challenging. Crazy little chipmunks at the summit with no fear of humans. They are fun to watch and were eating directly from people’s hands. It took up 5 ½ hours to the top and then another 4 hours down.

  1. Another tip — you can typically refill at High Creek, although you should filter or treat the water. It’s a great idea to keep a couple iodine tablets in your pack for just such an occasion. They weight next to nothing and while the water won’t taste as good, it will make it safe to drink.
