We hiked a Clockwise loop from Mitchell Canyon visitor Center.  We started hiking along the Eagle Peak Trail which goes along the ridge line of several smaller peaks.  This was a beautiful stretch of hike with lots of views of the valley below.  This continued along Prospectors and North Peak Trail which was a much needed strenuous work out. It took us about 3 1/2 hours to reach the peak of Mount Diablo. There's  a visitor center at the top and fresh water to refill your water bladder. We hiked back down to Jupiter Trail to Deer Flat  Road and finally finished with the Mitchell Canyon fire road. This was an easier descent and took us about 2 1/2 hours. Overall it was a beautiful hike and a great workout.  The temperature and weather were perfect – in the 60s.  This hike could get very hot in the summer so be sure to bring lots of water.

  1. Awesome post. I went from Rock City partly on Summit Trail and Trail of time for a 5hr round trip hike for a 6.5mi distance and 1750ft elevation gain and back. Summit was nice to climb up but coming down was hard!
