Got a good start at about 0830. Nice bit of shade as we approached Picacho. The evidence of a very wet winter was still present with abundant wildflowers and very green leaves and cacti. The first couple cables were nice, but those past the saddle are necessary. There is a slick trek down from the saddle before you make the turn and head up the back side of Picacho. There s a very distinct spot we’re hikers stopped to evaluate whether to continue to the peak or turn back. We continued and we’re very thankful for the cables. Not much at the top, the views are endless though. As a few more hikers got to the peak we began our descent. The cables were our friends for sure and we took it slow and enjoyed the way back. By the end our legs were spent and we were ready for that cup of coffee!
