Met with Jeff, Jim, Cindy and Moon at the trailhead at 7AM. Which is early for me, I got up at 5:30. No one else was there, which was cool. We were not in a hurry, it took around 2.5 hours to summit. We hung out at the top for about half an hour, then headed down. It took a couple hours to descend – again, at a leisurely pace. It was cool, the weather was clear, we could easily see Mt Jefferson in the distance but Hood was obscured. There was a fire in the distance, but it was hard to see. We maybe encountered a dozen people coming down, but it was pretty solitary. Most of the trees have been lost to wildfire, so I believe it would have been quite hot later in the day. This was my second hike of the Six Peaks Challenge. Looking forward to the next one!

    1. Thanks for leading our group, Jeff! Good luck with your new job, hope it doesn’t interfere too much with your hiking! I’m still hoping to do South Sister on 9/9, if I can get a permit and there isn’t too much smoke. Fallback for me is 9/23. I understand that a midweek permit is easier to get, but I’m working, that definitely makes weekends far better for me.
