For a Friday in February it was an absolutely gorgeous day to be hiking in the bay. We started a little later than I would have liked because the entrance gate is closed overnight. We hit the trail and there were almost no other people on the mountain yet. After cresting Eagle Peak we did see a large group of 25-30 hikers making their way up looking like a human accordion. After reaching the peak and having lunch I couldn’t believe how many people were up on Mt. Diablo. Between the hikers, bicyclists, and tourists that drove to the top it reminded me of Mt. Wilson in SoCal. No matter the crowds though it was another peak checked off and a gorgeous day to be out on a mountain. The view of the bay on such a clear day was nothing short of magical. Looking toward Mt. Tamalpais and the Golden Gate or West towards Yosemite… Breathtaking!!!

  1. That ridgeline up is fun, isn’t it? I hiked it with a friend in February on a Thursday, and we almost didn’t see anyone until we reached the summit, which is always the busiest part.

    1. I grew up just North of Mt. Diablo and couldn’t believe I never did this hike until this year. Yes Jeff that ridgeline up was my favorite part of the day. Oh yeah and I meant looking East towards Yosemite, West towards the Golden Gate.
