Hike Log

Easy but Dusty Santiago Peak Hike

Trailhead:

Maple Spring

Type of Hike:

Day hike

Trail Conditions:

Minor obstacles posing few problems

ROAD:

Road recommended for high clearance only

Bugs:

Bugs were an annoyance

Snow:

Snow free

Since I had to start from Maple Spring, I had to drive up a lot to the trail head. One lane, two-way dirt road posed lots challenges to drive.  I strongly recommend driving SUV or trucks, small car will get damaged. My SUV got small scratches by tree branches due to letting other cars pass from the opposite direction. Hike was the easiest one for all peaks. there is no coverage on the trail, pls wear sunhat, sunscreen and strongly recommend light-weight gaiter to avoid bugs and dust. you can actually drive all the way up to the summit, i saw people do that, but what's the point?  I didnt see any Santiago Peak sign on the summit.
