The weather was perfect on Leap Day. Despite a few ominous looking clouds it did not rain. The flowers were out due to the previous week's rain and the seasonal waterfall at the Basin was flowing. I met a fellow challenger with a group coming down while I was heading up. She was wearing Six-Pack apparel, that's how I recognized her. She said it was her 5th peak with one more to go.  Going up was still a challenge. Even though I knew what to expect I still felt I got flattened.  the scramble was still a challenge. Going up the vertical wall I tried to remember how I did it last time. I made it up and got my photos taken first at the spot where one emerges from the vertical wall and later at the Flatiron itself. I only stayed 10 minutes and started heading back down. On the way down I met a couple of hikers who were heading up to watch the sunset from the Flatiron. They assured me they had headlamps for the hike back. Going further down, I came across three hikers who had hiked this trail for the first time. We got caught by sunset before we could reach the Basin but fortunately all of us had headlamps. Because I was the one who had done the trail previously they asked me if I could guide them which I agreed to do. We made our way down to the Basin taking our time. It seemed to take forever but we made it to the Basin. The husband of one of the hikers later met us down and we continued our hike together.  We caught up with other hikers who were heading back to the cars. We parted at the junction to the Saguaro Parking Lot while I continued back to the Siphon Draw parking lot. Despite the late ending, it was good.
