What better way to complete the Six Pack of Peaks Challenge than to knock it out with San Gorgonio on the 4th of July! My friend Amber and Sarah and I decided to go out through South Lake and do a loop—up Dollar Lake and down Dry Lake, for 21 miles. We were a little hesitant to hike in a burn area thinking it would be depressing. The ranger though had told me the flowers were gorgeous and they were right! The flowers were so amazing we did not even notice the trees. All day long we commented about the colors…red, yellow, gold, pink, purple—it was amazing! I would choose the Dollar Lake hike over Vivian Creek any day! We had perfect weather and great views from the top. We were dressed in red, white and blue but when a Marine who was at the Summit let us use his flag for our pic it brought it all together! So grateful to live in a country where we can enjoy friendship, nature and beauty! So I’m done (although I might pick up the alternate peaks!). In three weeks I’m off to hike the Whites in New Hampshire and four weeks later I’ll be in the Sierras! Thank you for putting this challenge together—it was a great way to train!
