The first part of the hike was cool with a lot of switch backs. There was a “rocky” transition from the woody first mile to the fire road. Although it was a cooler day, the sun was out in full force and with the lack of tree coverage it made for some hot conditions. At the peak we were greeted with crystal clear skies and a great view of the snow capped Sierras. The breeze at the top was a bit chilled but was welcomed after the hike up. A note to fellow travelers, take plenty of sun block and use it! It is a long 8 miles in direct sun.
