Snowfields to cross – could be difficult

So I had actually done Camp Muir a few times in the last year already, and it took some holding back to not just do a post for it earlier, but I wanted to go big and include it with a summit, lol.

Spent the night at Camp Muir (well, got 3 hours of sleep) and then started the hike to the summit at 12:30. We were the last to start, but first to summit! It was probably the hardest thing I ever did in my life. Took the DC route, however we had to take a long detour along the Emmons Glacier, so it added a lot of extra mileage and time.

This was the biggest mountain I have climbed yet, I could definitely feel the thinner air at 14,000+

Well, now that #9 is done, I guess I have to figure out how do Mount Pilchuck with the road closure, maybe multi day ultra marathon, or maybe dirt bike to the trailhead. I'll see what I can figure out, lol.

  1. Amazing! Great job, John. I attempted Rainier in 2021 with IMG, but the weather did not cooperate (our summit date was early season — May 5th). Not sure if my wife will “let me” try again. 😉

    1. Hah, your wife has good sense, mine was worried sick the whole time I was up there. If your better half changes her mind, you can pen me down as a possible rope partner for the future – maybe June/July would be easier than May 🙂
