Icehouse Canyon opened up, and in anticipation of its closure due to…people…I went out of my order for the Alt-Six to get Ontario done, lest a closure preclude me from finishing the Alt-Six.
Got to Icehouse Canyon before 5am- still blocked off, trailhead also cordoned off, and I double checked the dates of the closure expiration and searched the interwebs for any new closure information. Once confident enough that I wasn't violating any order, I proceeded, with the help of my newfangled headlamp!
Not too much longer, it was bright enough to see where I was going- gorgeous canyon; I can see why so popular. Once at the saddle, took a break, then bagged Bighorn, which was steep and fantastic! Didn't see any bighorns, alas…
Once at Kelly Camp, snow cover was such that I lost the trail. I knew I had to go up and ~that way~, so I did, and even when I did find the trail, there was lots of snow and it was SUPER ANNOYING.
Got to the summit, fantastic views, took a break. Going down, trail easier to follow, snow was still stupid.
Took the Chapman Trail after the saddle for some additional mileage and different experience.
Back at Icehouse Canyon, was a friggin' madhouse of people. Got out of there, got tacos. Good times.
