Took the dirt road through Trabuco Canyon to Holy Jim TH. There is a closed ranger gate 2 miles from the proper trailhead due to high creek flows and damage to one of the crossings. Had to remove my shoes three times to make each of the crossings on foot. Quite a lot of poison oak is growing throughout the canyon and alongside the trail on the way to the waterfall. After the waterfall junction I began the switchbacks through 4 miles of green tunnel and passed through the drizzling clouds which made for a wet time. I used my rain pants today in addition to my shell. By the time I got up to the road I was soaked from all the sweat and humidity. There is a nice waterfall coming off the spring where the lower trail meets the road. I could have filtered some but still had plenty mostly due to the shade and cooler temps today. From the junction, I took the road the rest of the way up to the summit where I got above the clouds and appreciated the power of the sun as I dried my wet clothes while hiking. The summit was windy and views were only available looking south. Only saw one motorcycle and one person in a truck the whole time on the trail and did meet a couple and their pup towards the end back at the trailhead proper. Overall decent day for a workout and to shakedown my rain pants as I continue training for the JMT this summer.
