NO SHADE ANYWHERE!! However, this was the most spectacular hike for blooming wildflowers. Luckily, we got a really early start and managed quite a bit of the hike to the peak in the shade and cool weather. Water and electrolytes are essential on this hike. It was so beautiful with thousands of majestic Saguaro cactus dotting the landscape everywhere. We encountered 4 boys on the trail messing with a venomous Arizona Coral Snake. We tried to convince them to leave it alone but they insisted on capturing it in a water bottle….it was not happy in there. Later on our ascent we saw them again and they said they had let it go, happy ending??? My hiking buddy and I truly feel blessed to enjoy the trail, enjoy the stunning vegetation and marvel at he indigenous creatures that inhabit the area, so it's really difficult to see fellow hikers disturbing this delicate balance. With that said, we've never really encountered that before. Hopefully, with age comes wisdom and appreciation for nature. Once we got to the peak and had a snack and took a few pictures, we headed down the Hugh Norris trail. It got super hot and sunny and thankfully we had a cooling breeze, but this is no joke and hikers need to be prepared with plenty of fluids. Definitely had a pint and a sandwich to restore what the hike took out of us. 5 down! 1 to go!!
