Started this hike going down to Sturtevant Falls. This is a bit off the trail to mount Wilson but they’re gorgeous, especially now with the snow melt. This trail was shaded for most of the hike which kept it nice and cool. It was also along a river and there were a lot of river crossings. Some members of my group slipped in. The signs on the trail are a bit misleading in terms of distance, but not too bad. It was fun to walk through the Strutevant Camp from over 100 years ago. The top of mount Wilson is an observatory and there was a good number of people who drove up there. We tried to hike back down the rim trail but it wasn’t well marked so we hooked back down the way we came up. The grade is pretty steep and there’s a good number of rocks on the trail making it a bit slippery.

Smart move hiking as an out-and-back. The trailhead on the other side of the observatory complex is hard to find if you don’t have a map or if you haven’t been there before.
