I decided to make this a backpack to summit Ontario Peak and Cucamonga Peak. I hiked from the trailhead to Kelly's Camp on August 8. I hiked the last mile as the sun was setting and arrived at camp under darkness. It is a difficult climb from the trailhead to the saddle. Elevation gain of close to 3,000′ feet in 3 1/2 miles. I learned three new knots on this trip and how to hang my bear bag three different ways. I was SOOOOO blessed to have fresh spring water piped into Kelly's Camp preventing from having to hike back down the trail three miles to retrieve water from the running spring.
I took off from camp August 9 to head up to Ontario Peak. It was hard but not terrible. There were a couple of people at the summit when I arrived. I had a great afternoon back at camp moving my tent to a shady location to allow for afternoon naps, filling up all of my containers with fresh water. Relocating my bear bag. Having breakfast for dinner and enjoying the solitude. There were four people camping when I woke up Sunday morning and no one Sunday night so it was very quiet.
