The long way to San Jacinto

Trailhead:

Deer Springs, Idyllwild

Trail Conditions:

ROAD:

Bugs:

Snow:

After some other hikes I felt brave and decided to take the long way up via Deer Springs to Strawberry junction, and then a clockwise loop; up the west side, down via Wellman Divide. Per Fitbit this was about 20 miles, and 5500 ft elevation gain. Gorgeous all-day hike (7 am -7 pm). Sunny above the clouds and never chilly. No snow and just a trickle of fresh water near Round Valley and at Wellman’s Cienaga. Last time up Jacinto via the tram I had some trouble with the elevation in the last mile, now I had more practice, and just took it easy and got there just fine. Met a PCT-er at the top, and a woman who had been running up C2C (just to put my hike into perspective). I took breaks to practice moiuntaintop names (great app PeakFinder!) and sketch a bit.
