We were a total of 62 miles into our trip and had an ambitious day ahead of us. We got up at 4:30 to get to our first climb of the day, Mt. Bachelor. We proceeded up the mountain, pushing through the lower mile of the hike with relative ease. We stopped to rest at the bottom of the summit ski-lift and realized we'd forgotten…. everything. No microspikes, no ice axe, no sunglasses, even. Looking up at the rest of the mountain still to climb, we decided that we would just head back down and continue with the days plans. Mt. Bachelor would have to wait for tomorrow.

We crossed the road and climbed the comparatively easy Tumalo Moutain in a quick 40 minute push. Even reaching the top, we felt a little upset, looking across the highway at Mt. Bachelor, top covered in clouds. We hurried back into town and climbed Pilot Butte to add some miles to the day, putting us at 71 miles.

We would be better prepared the next day.
