About this peak
Oats Peak is a coastal summit high above Montaña de Oro State Park near Los Osos, with views over the park and the Pacific. The Six-Pack route is the Oats Peak Loop, about 9.8 miles with roughly 1,453 feet of gain. The trail climbs gradually through brushy north-facing slopes and a grassy meadow to the summit, so wear long pants and watch for poison oak.

Hazards
Dense brush covers the north-facing slopes and the trail narrows in places, with poison oak growing into the path. The steepest sections are the climb out of the trailhead and the approach to the summit, where the rocky, hard-packed trail can be slippery, so good trail shoes are preferred. Much of the route is exposed to sun and coastal wind.
