About this challenge
The Central Oregon Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge asks you to log any six of its nine peaks, ranging from Sutton Mountain near the Painted Hills at 4,694 ft to South Sister at 10,363 ft. The hikes start lower and work up to longer, harder climbs, with South Sister as the finale. You can finish in six days, six weeks or six months.
How it works
One membership covers every challenge.
Log any 6 of the 9 peaks, using the date you hiked.
A peak badge for each summit and a finisher badge at 6.
Rules and guidelines
Same for every challenge
- Log the day you hiked. Use the date of your summit, and log each peak once per challenge.
- Leave No Trace. Pack out everything, stay on trail and respect wildlife and other hikers.
- Know your limits. Check conditions, permits and closures before you go, and turn around if it is unsafe.
- Hike at your own risk. The community shares information, and you are responsible for your own safety.
Good to know for this challenge
Advance permits are required for South Sister and for the alternate Belknap Crater from June 15 to October 15. Day-use permits are released in two rolling windows, 10 days and two days before the trip date. South Sister is a very long day, about 12 miles with roughly 4,820 ft of gain, and wilderness rules limit groups to fewer than 12 people. Check permit availability and conditions before you go.
