Mount Bachelor
About this peak
Mount Bachelor is a volcano in the Deschutes National Forest about 21 miles west of Bend, and nearly everyone in Central Oregon knows it for the ski area. The recommended route is the Hiking Mount Bachelor guide, about 6.4 miles round trip with roughly 2,664 feet of gain. The single-track crosses jagged lava formations, and the summit looks out over the Three Sisters, Mount Jefferson, Mount Hood and Mount Adams. Check the guide for the exact starting point before you go.

Hazards
The summit route climbs about 2,664 feet over jagged lava formations, so wear sturdy footwear and expect rough footing. The mountain is a working ski area, and the winter season runs roughly December through April, so check conditions and any area closures before you go. There is no potable water at the site, so carry all you need.
