Conquered the devil
Also on this hike
We started at the eagle peak trail after lucking out finding parking at regency. We skipped the trail to Mitchel rock and found a part of the eagle peak trail that went around it and directly up to the actual eagle peak. It took us about 2.5 hours to get there. Somewhat strenuous, but nothing debilitating. The bugs were active, but thank goodness for bug spray. Spring time is the best time for this summit hike because the grass and flowers are just beautiful.
Once at eagle peak we took about thirty minutes to take in the view, stretch and eat.
Next we crossed the prospectors gap while doing our best to stay out of the way of the people running a race. The beauty of that inner valley, something you can only see while doing this hike, was breath taking. Lots of uphill, and even more once we hit the summit trail next.
This may have been the steepest part, or maybe it just felt that way after 4.5 hours of hiking. The very final stretch took us bouldering over rocks, yet still taking us on a trail, and we headed up the backside of the summit building. We passed a GIANT rock (don’t know the name of it), which we plan to climb someday. Being able to see the Sierra mountains and San Francisco from the same viewing platform is simply incredible.
Today, we crossed off a major item on our bucket list.
5.5 hours total.
