Cucamonga Peak Trail
It was not a good day on the trail. The trailhead was packed by 7am, so I had to park further away. The canyon was filled with smoke from a nearby wildfire, making it harder to breathe going up. The air did clear out by the saddle. Then from the peak and the saddle, ran into an unprepared mom and son who was left behind by a group, slept overnight on the mountain. The son was severely dehydrated, exhausted and needed medical attention. Group of people came together to help, 911 was called and a helicopter came. Overall a good and challenging hike, but had this unfortunate experience on the trail. Was very angry at the group that left them behind with no way to check in with each other.
Be prepared, know your Ten Essentials, and let someone know when you start and finish your hike.
Wow that is awful that the woman and her son got left behind! Glad there were some helpful people to help get them off the mountain safely. Hope the son will be okay.
