Mount Bachelor Summit
Also on this hike
Hiked this one solo. This was quite the adventure for me since I’m new to the area and don’t have much experience with snow. I did come prepared with poles and microspikes though. I didn’t end up using the spikes. Some of the trail was covered with snow in sections, but I was able to follow the footprints of the hiker ahead of me to find the trail each time. I was very cautious on the way up to avoid the snow as much as possible. The views at the top were incredible! As I was about to make my way down I saw a couple of hikers walking straight up the snow field. I had been too afraid to venture off the rocks most of the time. They weren’t even wearing spikes. I started a conversation with them and asked a lot of questions. They were very kind and at the end they gave me a lesson/demo on glissading, and down the mountain I went. It was so fun, and the descent took a fraction of the time that it would have if I had taken the trail.
Fantastic, Dorothy! Glissading can be a lot of fun, as long as you can keep your speed under control.
Yes! I’m a cautious person by nature and my poles helped control my speed, and in many instances were used to get me going again.
